The core idea of creating Clan Ubuntu, is not to re-create the Afrikaburn effigy but to create a space
where we promote interaction, participation in the installation. The effigy symbolises the human comradely
in a tree form. From the roots (feet) well grounded, trunk (body) and the branches (hands) reaching to the sky
and holding each other. That is community - that is not judgemental, non racist and non binary. Embarrassing
diversity in Unity. Motho ke motho Ka batho – I am because we are
UbuntuWe believe that this is not just a philosophy. It is a way of living (interconnectivity) building strong compassionate community ImbumbaThis piece is our perspective view from
The BuildWe will build three giants wooden humans. They are holding each others hands in the sky and embracing. Standing in a triangle deeply connected and embracing Unity. This emphasises the importance of love, respect and collaborations. Showing the power of three, the strength in Unity. The humans show diversity in their cladding, with one common similarity which is the tree of life sigil. The most relevant geometric symbol to our story of planting the seed of Ubuntu to the world. Each human is 14 metres tall, 5 metres wide and 2 metres in breadth. This size makes the piece definitely a mega structure. Will have benches all around the feet of the humans. Will have stairs leading to viewing deck suspend 3 metres from the ground, connecting all three humans. This area is for interacting and viewing the playa, sunrise and sunset. Below the deck we have a second area for interaction and participation.
